Atlanta, GA - July 16, 2007 - Add Dimension to Your Design with OpenGL Bootcamp, October 22-26, 2007
Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., provider of intensive training classes for programmers, system administrators and web developers, announced the fall dates for OpenGL Bootcamp, featuring instructor Rocco Bowling, for October 22-26, 2007. Rocco's OpenGL training class takes a novel approach to the instruction of OpenGL, wrestling it from most training companies' traditional approach to teaching OpenGL within the context of game design and expanding its possibilities to a full range of applications across a spectrum of industries.
The five days of OpenGL Bootcamp are formatted to provide the maximum impact in OpenGL training so that, by the end of the week, students will demonstrate mastery in the following key areas:
- creating 2D and 3D visualizations using OpenGL
- gaining a deeper theoretical understanding of modern graphics development and the challenges facing data visualization developers
- writing and implementing cross-platform OpenGL visualizations
- understanding the variety of GPU programming methods and the way in which they can enhance and give depth to a spectrum of applications
This class assumes that the student knows a procedural programming language (such as C), and has a basic understanding of trigonometry and vector mathematics. Although the course is taught on Mac OS X, it is primarily an OpenGL course and the ideas covered can be used on any platform which OpenGL supports.
In a recent review of the class by Jessy Cowan-Sharp, Jessy commented, "The material was good even for a total beginner. It's hard to develop a course that both challenges people with some experience, but doesn't lose the 'noobs.' This course did that well."
Using OpenGL Programming Guide: The Official Guide to Learning OpenGL, Version 2 (commonly referred to as the Red Book) as the guide to the class, short lectures are followed by hands-on, practical application of the information. In addition, Rocco streamlines the OpenGL instruction by providing libraries and frameworks for abstracting the operating system so students can zero in on mastering OpenGL coding and concepts.
Rocco's extensive background covers both professional game development (Freeverse Software, Independent Games Festival, uDevGame Mac Game Programming Contest, etc) and scientific visualization research for the National Security Agency. His creativity and passion have won him numerous accolades and awards, including two Apple Design Awards for Best Mac OS X Product and for Best Mac OS X Technology Adoption. Now, Rocco leverages his considerable knowledge and experience to one of the greatest development challenges: training a new generation of creative, forward-thinking OpenGL developers who will take this technology to even greater heights.
