Atlanta, GA - January 20, 2006 - Store this Data: PostgreSQL 8.1 Bootcamp May 1-5, 2006
Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., an industry leader in classes for developers and system administrators, announced the spring dates for the consistently popular PostgreSQL 8.1 Bootcamp for May 1-5, 2006. PostgreSQL has made a name for itself by providing a scalable, flexible and robust database solution. The intensive, five-day class is taught by Chris Campbell. Chris's engaging and energetic teaching style and rich experience in PostgreSQL development and administration positions him as an ideal instructor.
Big Nerd Ranch founder Aaron Hillegass, said, "PostgreSQL is such a full-featured database server that an administrator or developer requires a comprehensive introduction to truly leverage its full capabilities. Chris Campbell has honed the syllabus to best present the tools and features of PostgreSQL. He has managed to develop the best class available for PostgreSQL students by zeroing in on critical areas database administrators need to put this solution to work in their organizations."
The five-day course is a full-scale presentation of information that covers principal themes in succinct lectures immediately followed by hands-on exercises that put new concepts into practical use. While a background in database administration or PostgreSQL is not required, it is recommended that students have a command of basic Unix administration, the Unix command line, simple SQL statements, and basic programming concepts.
The five-day course will cover a full range of topics, and students emerging from this course should expect mastery in the following areas:
- Creating databases, schemas, and clusters with initdb
- Managing users, access control, logs, monitoring and backups
- Maximizing tools such as pgAdmin, phpPgAdmin, psql, OpenSSL
- Using SELECT, JOIN, Slony-I replication, data types and table constraints
- Mastering transaction, views, triggers, rules, queries, optimization and dealing with the free space map and VACUUM
- PL/pgSQL functions, C functions, pgpool, libpq, DBI, and full-text indexing
- Choosing hardware, operating systems and file systems
Chris Campbell has several years experience as a developer using PostgreSQL and as an administrator caring for PostgreSQL installations. Since graduating from Georgia Tech, Chris has honed his skills working for Cisco Systems and an Atlanta IT consulting firm solving cross-platform and networking problems. His deep commitment to providing high level instruction and guidance makes him an active and responsive mentor for students completing the PostgreSQL Bootcamp.
